Governor Dave Heineman recently visited Centura Elementary School to present a special award to not one, but two Centura students. Faith and Hope McDonald each received first place in the Nebraska Department of Agriculture’s 2014 poster contest. They are the daughters of Brent and Amy McDonald of Rockville. Faith, a fourth grader, won first place the fourth- and third-grade division.

On Sunday morning, we still have some light rain coming down. When I checked the river flows, the South Loup River had a high reading of 1,070 cfs in the late evening of April 26th. It is down to 467 cfs now.

Storms impact power district’s infrastructure

A tornadic storm system travelling northeast from the area of Ravenna and Rockville brought an EF3 tornado to Howard and Greeley counties beginning a little after 1:00 last Friday afternoon. As the twister made its way from its genesis point south of Farwell and up into Greeley County, pivots, fences, grain bins, outbuildings, countless vehicles and pieces of farm equipment, and a few homes were damaged or destroyed by its up-to-145mile-per-hour winds.

ZYSSET: Leo Robert Zysset was born on April 24th. He weighed 7 lb., 8 oz. and was twenty-one inches long. Leo is the son of Spencer and Jennifer (Rathman) Zysset of David City. He was welcomed home by brothers and sisters Lily, Carl, Clara, and Vincent. Proud grandparents are Bruce and Denise Rathman of Farwell and Waid and Marilyn Zysset of Hastings.
